By Dr. Aimee Kisaichi

Dysautonomia is a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). If you have felt tired, are not getting good quality sleep, or have experienced IBS like symptoms since the beginning of the Pandemic, you will want to call Dr. Aimee. You might be experiencing the beginning of dysautonomia-like condition. If you experience anxiety, nervous breakdown, increased pain, excessive sweating, dizziness, fainting, GI symptoms, anxiety, depression etc since the Pandemic started, you will want to discuss the possibility of dysautonomia-like condition with Dr Aimee. Causes of dysautonomia can vary from viral infection, chemical or environmental exposure, genetic, autoimmune disease, etc. Dysautonomia is complex given it has both primary and secondary levels, which may require a referral to a specialist. Here at our clinic, we have seen entry-level manifestations of dysautonomia-like conditions that are caused by dysfunction of Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis. Psychological stress can increase inflammation leading to pain and depression. (Maydych, 2019). As a result, this can place more stress on the ANS further inhibiting its ability to regulate.

Dr Aimee is here to discuss more about Dysautonomia.
